God Chose Abraham
Genesis 12:1-3 -God makes 3 promises to Abraham
Genesis 17:1-22 -God chose Abraham
“everlasting” is olam with the preposition le, meaning a weaker sense.
It means “for the duration” or “until the end of the current era.”
It is also used in conjunction with the Sabbath, Passover, Levitical priesthood, burnt offerings, the lamp burning in the tabernacle, circumcision, and Canaan as a possession.
Genesis 28:10-15 -Reaffirmed with Jacob, Abraham’s grandson

God Chose the Children of Israel
Exodus 19:3-6 -Israel is a chosen nation

The Covenant was Fulfilled and Completed
The Nation:
Exodus 1:1-14 -The size of the children of Israel
Exodus 12:31-39 -The size of the children of Israel
The Land:
Joshua 11:16-23 -Joshua conquers the promised land
The Seed:
Matthew 5:17 -Christ came to fulfill the covenant
Galatians 3:5-9 -Gentiles blessed through promise to Abraham
I Timothy 2:1-7 -Christ wants, and was ransom for, all men to be saved

The Covenant Had been Finished
Colossians 2:14 -Nailed to the cross
Ephesians 2:14-16 -Abolished the Old Law
Hebrews 8:13 -The Old was obsolete, and so replaced

God Chose His Church
Colossians 3:12-13 -The church is the chosen/elect of God
I Peter 2:9-11 -Christians are a chosen generation/people
I Peter 1:1-5 -For obedience, hope, inheritance, and salvation


Numbers 14:26-38 -God punishes those who refuse to enter the land
Just as those who were disobedient among God’s people in the Old Testament could not enter the promised land, so it is with us. Will you obey? Or will you be cast out as unfaithful to the Lord?
